All the way back in May, we here at BMW of Des Moines were teasing you all with a glimpse of the eco-friendly future of our lineup. It was very exciting news for our new and used cars, news that's had our minds racing like gangbusters ever since. Well now that the BMW i3 has finally been unveiled, the future is within our grasp.

In case this is all coming as news, the BMW i3 is the first EV that our favorite automaker will be sending down the production line. With it comes a 22-kW, 450-lb. lithium-ion battery that boasts an electric driving of 80-100 miles and can be fully recharged in just three hours. It will reportedly arrive in three trim levels that will be referred to as Worlds: Mega (the standard trim in the US), Giga and Tera. And for all of you out there who are concerned about driving range, have we got some news for you.

In case three hours is still too long of a wait to get you to switch over from diesel, drivers will have the option of purchasing the SAE DC Combo Fast Charger that can get the job done in a mere 30 minutes. Not only that, but you can also install the optional 34 horsepower, 650cc two-cylinder generator as a range extender to put your mind at ease.

As for when you can take it for a test drive, that won't be until Q2 of next year. Until then, feel free to get filled in on everything it will have to offer from the experts in our car parts department at our dealership here in Urbandale, IA. 2014 can't get here fast enough.
