Nearly everyone would like to get a glimpse into the future. Whether he/she is interested in knowing when the first flying cars hit the market, or simply seeing what his/her future life will hold, the future is a mystery a lot of us would like to better understand. To try and satisfy this curiosity, luxury auto brand BMW is giving NYC pedestrians a look at would the future of the automotive industry could hold.
Using such futuristic technologies as motion detection and digital projection, BMW has created a window that showcases how is new I sub-brand will change the auto market for the better. As real traffic flows in front of the camera, it's shown on a large screen, but instead of looking like the real-life vehicles, this screen shows the vehicles transformed into one of two models: either the BMW i3 EV or i8 plug-in hybrid.
This alone is quite a feat, but BMW has more in store for captivated New Yorkers. As the BMW I models are shown on the screen, so are the emission reductions and fuel-savings switching to these models would entail.
In one week, a total of 248,368 vehicles were digitally transformed. When switched to BMW i models, these vehicles would save $493,507,216 each year on gas and produce 1,324,919 fewer tons of CO2 emissions per year.
