Electric vehicles continue to impress Urbandale drivers, and the BMW iX is no exception with ample driving range and plenty of modern features inside, competing even with the most popular electric cars like the Tesla Model X. At BMW of Des Moines, we're here to help you choose the right electric vehicle for your future. Learn more about how these models stack up below.

Performance

Both of these electric vehicles offer superb EV performance, for local and long-distance trips. The BMW iX offers an impressive driving range, clocking in at 324 miles with the base model. You can take extended road trips out of Waukee without hesitation. This entry-level version of the BMW iX also features DC fast charging capability, which can recharge your battery from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes. The Tesla Model X offers an impressive driving range as well, clocking in at 351 miles. But, it's ideal for Tesla vehicles to charge at a Supercharger station, which makes your next trip less flexible.

Main Cabin Features

The BMW iX continues BMW's reputation for creating luxurious vehicles. The main cabin features four-zone climate control and synthetic leather upholstery. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless, so you can use your favorite smartphone apps on the go.

The Tesla Model X is less flexible. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are nowhere to be found across all trim levels, and the main cabin only features tri-zone climate control. Waukee drivers will also find that the main cabin of the Tesla Model X is fairly generic compared to the flexibility found in the BMW iX.

Safety Features

The BMW iX offers an impressive array of safety features. Take advantage of forward collision mitigation, which detects potential collisions ahead and automatically deploys the emergency brake to help you avoid a collision. Blindspot warnings assist you in navigating tricky traffic situations on the highway, ensuring you can change lanes safely. Lane departure warnings are also a highway staple, notifying you if you've started to drift out of your lane. Parking sensors contribute to your safety in busy parking lots where visibility may be challenging.

Additional packages for the BMW iX include even more safety amenities like a 360-degree camera. The drive recorder captures an image of the road ahead, providing added evidence in case of an accident. The automated parking system allows you to maneuver into tight parking spots without having to do it manually. Moreover, the Driver Assistance Professional package offers excellent safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and highway assistance, allowing for hands-off driving depending on road conditions.

The Tesla Model X boasts great safety features, although not quite as many as the BMW iX. Adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, and blind spot warnings all come standard as part of Tesla's Autopilot collection of driver aids. An enhanced version of Tesla's Autopilot system, along with full self-driving capability, is available but comes at a steep price tag. In contrast, some of these features are available as part of optional packages with the BMW iX. Additionally, some of these packages offer enticing additions like an 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and more.
