It was recently announced that BMW Manufacturing attained a new largest annual production record in 2016, producing a total of 411,171 X model vehicles. This record ensures that the plant, which is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will continue as the BMW Group global production network’s largest plant by volume. Also of note is the fact that the plant exported 287,700 vehicles, or 70 percent of its production, last year.

Knudt Flor was appointed in December as BMW Manufacturing’s seventh President and CEO. “Last year was a very successful year for Plant Spartanburg,” noted Mr. Flor. “Our X models continue to be extremely popular worldwide, and I’m proud of the commitment shown by our team of dedicated associates to deliver premium quality vehicles for our customers.”

BMW Manufacturing is investing $1 billion into the plant as it prepares for a future that includes producing a fifth model in the assembly lineup – the all-new BMW X7. Construction projects include building a state-of-the-art body shop and expanding the X5/X6 model Assembly Hall by 200,000 square feet.
