Earlier this month, we here at BMW of Des Moines told you the story of a bonehead who became a YouTube sensation after driving his poor 2013 BMW M3 into a ditch. It was a perfect example of why we're such strong advocates of safe driving, and if it weren't for his BMW, we're guessing that guy would have had a much harder time getting out of that ditch. Because with BMW Assist available on all of our new and used cars, it's accidents like these that our favorite automaker prepares for.
To give you a bit of history, BMW Assist debuted in 1997 and gave our vehicles the ability to automatically contact emergency rescue services in the event of an accident or collision. It's as groundbreaking today as it was back then and the technology has only improved with time. In addition to its ability to contact rescue services, BMW Assist now uses advanced telematics to inform rescue services of the vehicle's location, the potential injuries of those involved and how to best provide assistance to them.
Needless to say, it's a vehicular lifesaver if there ever was one. So much so, in fact, that it was recently named the "Best Safety & Security Solution" at the 2013 Telematics Update Awards. As for why it finally won after being on the market for 16 years, we're guessing it has something to do with the announcement that BMW Assist will come standard on all 2014 BMW models.
Did we also mention that it comes with 10 years of complimentary service? An award well-earned if you ask us.
So if you'd like to learn more about everything that BMW Assist has to offer, feel free to get the rundown from the experts in our car parts department here at our dealership in Urbandale, IA. It's a whole lot easier than finding out the hard way.
