There are few things in this world that no American can possibly resist. Bruce Springsteen, illegal fireworks on patriotic occasions and hot dogs, hot dogs, hot dogs. It's a fact of life and one we're proud to support here at BMW of Des Moines. But did you know that your fellow countrymen are also helpless to resist plug-in hybrid supercars? We'll admit, it might not be common knowledge right now, but in due time, dear readers, you'll know exactly what we mean.
In fact, our favorite automaker is so confident in this belief that the success of the upcoming BMW i8 is riding on it.
At a recent press junket, our friends over at Automotive News Europe asked the brass at BMW about the global marketing plans surrounding their plug-in hybrid supercar of the hour. They were told that the BMW i8 will be sold to the public in approximately 50 countries, it can be purchased online and that the production version will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
As far as specifics go, it will house an electric motor and a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that will deliver a whopping 362 horsepower when working together. We're still waiting on what the fuel economy will look like, but if you're ever looking to go for a longer drive, there may be the option of borrowing a BMW 5 Series model from your local dealership to do so.
With all that said, BMW is expecting the United States to take to this eco-friendly bad boy more than any other country in the world. More specifically, they're aiming for the 30-something, tech-savvy male demographic to make their prediction a reality.
So if you fit the said bill or are just interested to learn more, the experts in our car parts department await you at our dealership here in Urbandale, IA. Don't say we didn't call it.
